The Partners in Healthy Living Ottawa Committee (PIHLO) is a coalition of community groups and organizations working together to improve the health of the people in the City of Ottawa. Our origins can be traced to the launching of the City of Ottawa's Regional Heart Beat program in 1987.
Vision
To increase the health of people in the City of Ottawa through adoption of healthier lifestyles in a supportive, clean and safe environment.
Partners in Healthy Living Ottawa (PIHLO) is strongly connected both locally and provincially. Our initiatives are partially funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion's Ontario Heart Health Program. We are linked to over thirty other Community Partnerships through the Ontario Heart Health Network and the Ontario Heart Health Resource Centre. This allows us to put successful ideas into action that are long-lasting and health-enhancing.
The community coalitions that make up PIHLO have been working together since 1988 in an evolving structure which adjusts to meet the changing needs of the community it serves and the environment in which it functions. Ottawa Public Health has been the lead agency for the community partnership for the last two decades.
PIHLO Executive Committee acts as the body for conducting the business of the PIHLO coalition.
In 2006, the Executive Committee made a decision to continue to expand its focus from heart health to chronic disease prevention. At that time the coalition name was changed from Ottawa Heart Beat to Partners in Healthy Living Ottawa, the logo was modified and the coalition began reaching out to potential new partners in keeping with the broader chronic disease prevention approach
